Heard of a 5th Century King who built a palace on top of a giant rock? Sigiriya (Lion Rock) is called the 8th wonder of the Ancient world for its beauty and sophistication. The start to the top of the rock is the Lion Gate - a lions legs and paws chiseled in to the rock. Mid way up the climb you can view the Sigiriya Frescos, painting of hundreds of ladies on the rock. Upon reaching the top of the rock you are rewarded with spectacular view stretching far in to the plains with the ancient city ruins and the Palace a the top.
Dambulla Cave Temple is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The caves consists of hundreds of Ancient Buddha status, gods and goddesses. Murals cover the roof and walls of the caves.
